2018 NorCal & SoCal Publications Contest

STEP 1: PAY ENTRY FEE

Pay online or generate invoice (to pay with check)

We would like each school to go to Wild Apricot payment website first and pay fees online now  – or – create an invoice for payment by check.  Click the button to the right to complete this step.

Entry Fee Deadline:
Payment is due July 9, 2018. You must generate an invoice on Wild Apricot by July 9 and either pay online at the time of entry fee registration or send a check.

If you process and send a check, payment should be received by July 31, 2018, or contact Cindy McGrath if your business office might take longer to get a check issued.

STEP 2: DOWNLOAD GUIDELINES

Select works to be submitted for judging

Download a copy of the Publication Contest Guidelines.  Follow the guidelines (also available on the BetterBNC website once you’re successfully logged in).

Eligibility: All entries MUST have been published between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. Entrants must be member colleges of JACC.

STEP 3: SUBMIT ENTRIES

Contest Entry Deadline: July 9, 2018 @ 9 p.m. PDT. Login to the BNC website at betternewspapercontest.com to submit your entries. Make sure you select “2018 JACC NorCal Publications Contest” or “2018 JACC NorCal Publications Contest.”

Entries:

  • The contest entry site accepts writing entries as clips (cropped PDFs of the stories as they appeared in the print edition), or links to the stories in the online edition. Don’t submit Word or other similar document formats.
  • Photo entries are JPEGs with embedded captions and entrants are asked to reproduce the caption in the caption field in the online entry form.
  • Pages are submitted as PDFs, and issues are submitted as links to the complete edition/s on Issuu (issuu.com) or another similar platform, or to their online edition as appropriate. Please note: Schools with sites that use a subscription or registration model must provide judges easy access to their sites by providing a password that must be entered into the comments section of the BetterBNC entry. If judges cannot access entries, they can’t evaluate them.

If you need assistance with submitting student work for judging, watch this step-by-step instructional video and/or email Cindy McGrath.
