Join the Journalism Association of Community Colleges

Why should your community college program join JACC?

Running a journalism program at the community college level can be a lonely endeavor. But it doesn't have to be. For more than 50 years, the Journalism Association of Community Colleges has served to bring together journalism advisers and their students for support, education, contests, networking and much more. We are centered in California, but have had member schools as far away as Rhode Island.

Let us help you, your program, and your students with the following:

  • Often advisers run one-person departments. JACC provides you with colleagues from around California and beyond who know exactly what you are going through.
  • Utilize our resource bank available only to members. Here you will find sample syllabi, staff manuals and more.
  • Join our faculty-only listserv and get answers to timely issues as they come up.
  • Come to our regional and state conferences to network with your colleagues. More importantly, these are student conferences where students can network with industry professionals and their future colleagues, take workshops, and participate in journalism contests.
  • Get support when administrators don't understand what journalism programs and their publications do or when you are being challenged because of lower enrollments than other programs.
  • Get information about state and national curriculum trends.
  • Give students leadership opportunities, since they are a part of our board and volunteer structure.
  • Support students through JACC member-exclusive scholarships.
