2022 Fall Regional Conferences

JACC Regionals Header

For the first time since 2019, JACC Regionals are in person !

We’ll be getting back together for a full day of learning, networking and even a little competition!

DATES & REGISTRATION:

We’ll meet on back-to-back weekends in October, just in time to ramp up student skills before the midterm elections in November!

SoCal students and advisers, you’ll get together on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Student Union. Register here starting Sept. 21!

NorCal students and advisers, you’ll meet on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Las Positas College. Register here starting Sept. 21!

Both regionals begin at 9 a.m. and will wrap up after awards at approximately 6:30 p.m.

SCHEDULE:

Whether you are in SoCal or NorCal, the conferences will largely mirror each other in terms of content. Check out the tentative schedule here. And I know, I know … too many options in a single block! We’ll be recording the panels and trainings so you won’t miss out by attending another activity during the same time slot.

CONTESTS:

Students will have the opportunity to compete in five fun and challenging competitions: newswriting, opinion writing, copy editing, feature photo and social media. Individual students will write news and opinion pieces on a deadline, while others will show off their AP style skills in the ultimate copy editing test. New this year, students will compete as a team in the social media contest (#teamwork💪🏽). And finally, your best feature photo shot during the week leading to the Regional will be judged live in our bring-in contest.

BACK IN ’22! STUDENT AFFINITY GROUP GET-TOGETHERS RETURN:

Our small affinity group get-togethers are back at Regionals. We heard you … no more competing meetings! We have spread the get-togethers through the afternoon, allowing students to attend as many as they would like before closing the get-togethers with the editors’ roundtable. So which groups should be meeting?!? You pick! Choose here. The top 3 selected by October 10 (SoCal) and Oct. 17 (NorCal) will be scheduled at their respective Regional.

NEW! STUDENT NEWSROOM DEBUTS:

At both Regionals, a small group will be selected to cover the day-long event as part of the student newsroom. Students from multiple programs will be producing a range of content on deadline, including news stories, Q&As, tip sheets, photos, social media and even multimedia! They will be mentored by guest faculty and all of their work will be showcased on the news JACC Community College Newswire on Substack. Applications will go live in early October, and students selected will be given a free registration to the Regional!

MORE UPDATES COMING:

Keynote and other speakers will be announced, as well as a long list of special guests and fun activities.
